The 7Summits

A 7Summits campaign involves climbing the highest mountain on each continent. There are less than 250 people in the world who have climbed all 7Summits. When Rob Hill summits Mount Everest, he will be one of the first 15 Canadians to complete the seven summits. More importantly though, when Rob stands on top of the world, he will be the first person living with Crohn’s disease and an ostomy to achieve this amazing feat! Rob climbs to raise awareness of intestinal disease, ostomy and the not-for-profit organization he founded: IDEAS.

Rob has climbed six of the 7Summits, in this order:

2002 – Mount Elbrus, Russia, 18,481 feet (Europe)

2003 – Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, 19,330 feet (Africa)

2004 – Aconcagua, Chile, 22,626 feet (South America)

2005 – Denali, Alaska, USA, 20,320 feet (North America

2006 – Vinson Massif, Antarctica, 16,050 feet (Antarctica)

2007 – Carstenz Pyramid, Indonesia, 16,023 feet (Australasia)

2008 – Everest base camp trek

2009 – Kilimanjaro, Tanzania leading the IBD Adventures team

2010 – Everest South Summit

Dear Rob,
How are you? You may not remember me…, but I remember you clearly. When you was here in Japan, July in 2006, some Japanese people climbed up the mount Fuji together with you. I was one of those. I was a marketing guy at ConvaTec Japan, and still working at ConvaTec. Recently, I heard that you attempt an attack the Everest this year. I am strongly hoping for you to make a successful ascent of the Everest. I am very confident of your victory! As I talked with you during your Japan visit, I have IBD and ileostomy, also. The long hospitalization and several surgeries are heavy days, but your signature on my cap gave me guts! It said “No Guts Know Glory”. Good luck!!
Please let me know, if you have any chance to come here. I want to say thank you to you.

Best regards,
koba//

Hey Koba,

Of course I remember you, we had some good talk and an amazing climb, thank you for sharing your story with me. Thinks are good, just training hard for another attempt on Everest, I am really looking forward to going back, Nepal is an amazing place. I am not sure when I will be back in Japan but I hope it is soon, there is talk of me visiting countries in Asia again, I am sure Japan is at the top of the list. We are still hoping to get Great Comeback’s going in Japan. Your story is great, you should go to the IBD doesn’t stop me, part of my site and share your story. Tell everyone how you climb Mt. Fuji, post some of the photos of you and I. Take care, I will let you know when I am coming to Japan again, it would be great to see you. Rob.

DSD, thanks for the follow and all your support! It is great to have you along, even it is just in spirit! It is thoughts like that that keep me motivated on those long, hard, cold days on the mountain. Rob.
